Landslides and floods caused by unseasonable torrential rains in northeastern Thailand has 40 people according to the latest report on Saturday, as flooding has displaced more than 23,000 people and caused substantial material damage.
Considered the worst in a decade, the floods are a consequence of the intense rainfall associated with the formation in the East Sea of ??the Podul storm and the tropical depression Kajiki, the National Meteorological Department explained.
The situation is particularly serious in the province of Ubon Ratchathani, bordering with Laos and Cambodia, due to the overflow of the Moon and Chi rivers, the institution added. But of the 77 Thai provinces, 32 are suffering the onslaught of these weather event.
In those territories, the waters have dragged homes and public facilities, bridges, roads and other infrastructure works. Large areas of cultivation have also been damaged.
On orders of Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha, some 4,000 soldiers were sent to disaster areas to assist with rescue work.
