The Thai Cabinet has announced that – Queen Suthida’s birthday – will be a national holiday from this year onward.
The announcement was made by Nattaporn Jatusripitak, spokeman for the deputy prime minister in charge of economic affairs.
The proposal from the Secretariat of the Cabinet for the Cabinet’s declaration was made in response to a royal command from King Maha Vajiralongkorn.
The government next week will clearly set out activities to honour the queen, besides the traditional merit-making and alms-offering ceremonies for such occasions, Nattaporn added.
Held between May 4 and 6, the coronation showcased the unique and visually splendid culture of Thailand.
“His Majesty the King has provided funds for the feast,” Prayut said, adding that his government would organise the party by May 24.
